Bowers & Wilkins HTM82 D4
The HTM82 D4 is the centre channel loudspeaker engineered as the perfect acoustic partner for the 803 D4 and 804 D4 floorstanders — sharing their driver complement and cabinet technology to ensure complete tonal and timbral consistency across the entire soundstage. Where a mismatched centre channel introduces a change of character at the most critical point of the listening experience, the HTM82 D4 ensures that sound moves between channels with no discontinuity of any kind. Martins Hi-Fi is the second oldest Bowers & Wilkins dealer in the world, and we consider the HTM82 D4 an essential component of any serious 800 Series Diamond home cinema installation.
Diamond Tweeter and Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top
The HTM82 D4 carries the same solid diamond dome tweeter as every loudspeaker in the 800 Series Diamond range — housed in its own Solid Body aluminium enclosure and mounted in the Tweeter-on-Top configuration above the main cabinet. The acoustic isolation this arrangement provides allows the diamond dome to resolve the finest high-frequency detail — the consonants, overtones, and fine vocal texture that give speech its intelligibility and character — entirely free from the vibrations generated by the midrange and bass drivers below. In a centre channel application, where vocal clarity is the primary performance criterion, this level of high-frequency resolution is what separates the HTM82 D4 from every competing design at its price.
Continuum FST Midrange Driver
The midrange driver employs Bowers & Wilkins' Continuum cone in a Fixed Suspension Transducer mounting — the same technology used in the 803 D4 and 804 D4 floorstanders it is designed to partner. Continuum's woven composite structure suppresses the characteristic resonance colouration of conventional synthetic cone materials precisely where the human ear is most sensitive — in the midrange frequencies where dialogue, lead vocals, and the fundamental body of most instruments reside. The FST mounting eliminates the conventional foam surround and the intermodulation distortion it introduces, and Biomimetic Suspension refines the driver's behaviour at low signal levels, recovering the micro-dynamic detail and low-level resolution that define the performance character of the 800 Series Diamond. The midrange unit is housed in a dedicated internal enclosure — mechanically isolated from the bass drivers on either side — ensuring that the midrange performance of the HTM82 D4 is as clean and uncoloured as the source demands.
Aerofoil Bass Drivers
Two Aerofoil profile bass drivers flank the midrange unit — composite cones of variable cross-section whose stiffness-to-mass ratio is optimised at every point across the cone surface, providing the low-frequency extension and dynamic authority that a centre channel must deliver against the most demanding cinematic material. An Anti-Resonance Plug within the bass enclosure damps the cabinet's primary internal resonance, ensuring the HTM82 D4's bass output is as controlled and articulate as its midrange and treble. The result is a centre channel that handles the full dynamic range of a reference-quality soundtrack without strain or compression at any level.
Matrix Cabinet Construction
The HTM82 D4's enclosure employs Bowers & Wilkins' Matrix internal bracing — the lattice of interlocking panels bonded throughout the cabinet that distributes vibrational energy across the entire structure, suppressing the panel resonances that colour the sound of conventional box loudspeakers. The D4 generation updates the Matrix design with a stiffened aluminium top plate and refined internal geometry — a further reduction in cabinet colouration that ensures the HTM82 D4 contributes nothing of its own character to the sound passing through it.

Who Is It For?
The HTM82 D4 is the natural centre channel choice for those building a home cinema system around the 803 D4 or 804 D4 floorstanders — the only centre channel that matches those loudspeakers' driver technology and voicing precisely enough to deliver a truly seamless surround soundstage. Those completing the system should consider the Bowers & Wilkins DB2D or DB3D subwoofers for low-frequency extension, and those wishing to step up to the flagship centre channel should explore the HTM81 D4 to understand what the pinnacle of the 800 Series Diamond centre channel range offers.
Buying from Martins Hi-Fi
Martins Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind. As the second oldest Bowers & Wilkins dealer in the world, we have a depth of experience with the 800 Series Diamond range that very few retailers can match. The HTM82 D4 is available to hear in our Norwich showroom as part of a complete 800 Series Diamond surround installation — Dave and Chris can advise on the full system configuration, amplification, and processing to ensure it performs at its considerable best.
