Bowers & Wilkins CWM8.3D
Martins Hi-Fi is the second oldest Bowers & Wilkins dealer in the world — and the CWM8.3D represents the pinnacle of what Bowers & Wilkins have achieved in architectural loudspeaker design. This is a three-way in-wall loudspeaker conceived for listeners who demand world-class sound yet require it to disappear entirely into the fabric of the room. The CWM8.3D sets a new standard for installation audio — drawing on technologies developed for the 800 Series Diamond loudspeakers to deliver a performance that is, by any measure, extraordinary.
Carbon Braced Tweeter with Nautilus Tube
The CWM8.3D's 25mm aluminium dome tweeter is Carbon Braced — a construction in which a layer of carbon fibre is bonded to the rear of the dome to dramatically reduce the resonant distortions that afflict conventional tweeter designs. Crucially, it is loaded by a Nautilus Tube — the tapered absorber first developed for the iconic Bowers & Wilkins Nautilus loudspeaker — which eliminates rear-wave reflection from the dome entirely. The result is a tweeter capable of reproducing high frequencies with a purity and openness previously unsurpassed in an in-wall design.
FST Midrange Driver
The 130mm midrange driver employs Bowers & Wilkins' Fixed Suspension Transducer technology — a surround-less design in which the cone is supported by a ring of foam rather than a conventional surround. This eliminates the colouration and intermodulation distortion that a traditional surround introduces, freeing the midrange to reproduce voices and instruments with a transparency and naturalness that defines the CWM8.3D's character.
Dual Carbon Fibre Rohacell Bass Drivers
Low frequencies are handled by two 180mm bass drivers constructed from carbon fibre reinforced Rohacell — an aerospace-grade foam core material of exceptional stiffness-to-weight ratio. The dual configuration delivers the cone area necessary to move serious quantities of air at the lowest frequencies, whilst the Rohacell construction ensures the drivers remain composed and free of breakup at high excursion levels. A Flowport port loading optimises low-frequency extension, contributing to the CWM8.3D's remarkable frequency range of 30Hz to 40kHz.
Rotatable Baffle and Installation Flexibility
The CWM8.3D's central baffle is fully rotatable, allowing the speaker to be installed in either vertical or horizontal orientation without compromising driver alignment. This makes the CWM8.3D equally suited to conventional portrait installation or wide horizontal deployment across a screen wall — an invaluable flexibility for architects and installers working with demanding room configurations.

Who Is It For?
The CWM8.3D is for those who refuse to compromise on sound quality yet require a solution that is architecturally invisible. It performs at a level that rivals freestanding loudspeakers of considerable cost and distinction — making it the natural choice for high-end residential installations, dedicated home cinema rooms, and any environment where the listening experience must be unrivalled and the speaker unseen. Those building a complete architectural system may also wish to consider the Bowers & Wilkins CWM8.5D or the ceiling-mounted CCM8.5D for a fully integrated solution.
