Bowers & Wilkins ASW610

The ASW610 is Bowers & Wilkins' compact, high-performance active subwoofer — a 10-inch closed-box design that brings genuine low-frequency authority to any stereo or home cinema system without dominating the room. Bowers & Wilkins engineer every component in the ASW610 to work as a coherent system, and the result is bass that is tight, fast, and precisely controlled rather than merely loud.

Long-Throw Driver

At the heart of the ASW610 is a 250mm paper and Kevlar cone driver engineered for exceptional excursion. A long-throw design moves substantially greater volumes of air than a standard driver at equivalent displacement, which means the ASW610 can reach into the deepest registers of the frequency range without the distortion and compression that compromise lesser subwoofers. The use of Kevlar — a material Bowers & Wilkins has refined over decades across its speaker range — keeps the cone stiff and accurate under extreme load, so fast transients remain tightly defined rather than collapsing into bloom.

200W Class D Amplification

The ASW610 is powered by a 200W Class D amplifier built on ICEpower technology. Class D amplification produces very little waste heat relative to its output, which means the entire 200W is available to the driver without thermal limiting — and the compact enclosure remains cool under extended use. The result is an amplifier section that can track dynamic peaks in music and film soundtracks with authority, without the amp itself becoming the limiting factor.

Sealed Enclosure

The ASW610 uses a sealed, closed-box cabinet design — the preferred alignment for listeners who value accuracy over raw extension. A sealed enclosure controls the driver's back-wave completely, producing a roll-off that is gradual and well-behaved rather than the sharper, resonance-prone characteristic of reflex designs. The benefit is bass that integrates naturally with the rest of the system: instruments sit with their correct weight and decay, rather than being pushed forward or artificially prolonged by port resonance.

Precise System Integration

Getting a subwoofer to vanish into a system — rather than announce itself — depends on adjustment. The ASW610 provides a variable-cutoff active 4th-order low-pass filter on the line input, a phase switch, and a three-position bass extension control that allows the roll-off alignment to be tuned to the room and the partnering speakers. Auto sense standby means the ASW610 powers itself down when the signal drops and wakes when it returns, without any intervention.

Who Is It For?

The ASW610 suits anyone who wants to extend the low-frequency range of a stereo or home cinema system with precision rather than volume. It is equally at home reinforcing the bottom octaves of a two-channel music system as it is handling LFE duties in a film setup. Listeners who have found ported subwoofers vague or boomy in their room will find the sealed alignment a significant improvement. It is not the choice for those who want maximum extension in a large room at high levels — the larger DB series, such as the Bowers & Wilkins DB3D or Bowers & Wilkins DB4S, addresses that brief — but for controlled, accurate bass in a domestic setting, the ASW610 is a highly capable proposition.

Buying from Martins Hi-Fi

Martins Hi-Fi has been in Norwich since 1968. Elizabeth Gould runs the business today, and we stock only brands we have heard properly and stand behind. Martins Hi-Fi is the second oldest Bowers & Wilkins dealer in the world, and the ASW610 can be demonstrated alongside Bowers & Wilkins speakers and electronics at our Norwich showroom so you can hear exactly how it integrates into a system before you commit.

When you get in touch, you'll be speaking with Dave and Chris — experienced specialists who can advise on this product and your whole system.
