The REL Autumn Sale: Serie HT and T/x Subwoofers at Martins Hi-Fi
"Do I actually need a subwoofer?" It's the question Dave hears most often when someone stands in front of the REL wall in the Norwich showroom. The honest answer is: probably not in the way you're imagining. What you need is bass that behaves — that arrives at the right moment, at the right weight, and then gets out of the way. REL Acoustics have spent decades building subwoofers that do exactly that, and right now, two of their most important ranges are on sale.
Serie T/x: For Rooms That Deserve Better
The Serie T/x is REL's music-first line. Each model uses a high-level Neutrik connection alongside the standard LFE input, which means the subwoofer receives the same signal your main amplifier is working from — the same character, the same timing cues. The result is a sub that doesn't announce itself.
The REL HT1205 MK2 is a capable starting point for smaller rooms. Step up to the T/7x and you gain a stiffer, lighter driver and a high-current Class A/B amplifier that gives the bass more control rather than just more volume. At the top of the range, the T/9x brings a 10-inch active driver paired with a 10-inch passive radiator — a configuration that allows genuine low-frequency authority without the enclosure needing to be enormous.
For anyone who wants to go further, REL's optional Rel Arrow Wireless module adds zero-compression wireless transmission, keeping the signal path clean while removing a cable run that can otherwise compromise a room.
Serie HT: When the Film Has to Feel Real
The HT range is built for a different brief. Where the T/x integrates with music, the HT models are designed to make a film soundtrack physical. The second-generation REL HT1205 MK2 sits at the heart of the range — more dynamic, more output, more of what a cinema track demands. The optional HT-Air accessory delivers wireless signal with a latency of 16 to 20 milliseconds, which is tight enough to stay in step with on-screen action.
If you're building a serious home cinema rather than a music system that occasionally watches films, the HT range is the more direct answer.
What the Sale Means
Both ranges are reduced for autumn. The specifics are on each product page, and stock is allocated — so this isn't one of those sales that quietly runs forever. If you've been considering a REL for a while, now is a reasonable moment to act.
Hear It Before You Decide
A subwoofer is almost impossible to evaluate from a specification sheet. The numbers tell you the driver size and the amplifier class; they tell you nothing about whether it will work in your room with your speakers. That's what the showroom is for.
Dave and Chris can set up a direct comparison between the T/x and HT ranges, and a proper demonstration will answer the question more quickly than any amount of reading. If you'd like to see the full REL range alongside the sale models, the REL No.31 — REL's flagship — is also in store and worth hearing for context.
