The Chord PowerHaus M6: When Your Mains Supply Becomes Part of the System

There's a question that comes up in the showroom more often than you might expect: "Do mains cables and distribution blocks actually make a difference?" The honest answer is yes — and the Chord PowerHaus M6 is one of the clearer demonstrations of why.

Most hi-fi systems share one uncomfortable truth. You can spend thousands on a source, an amplifier, and speakers, then feed the whole lot from a mains block that was designed to stop your kettle tripping the kitchen. The PowerHaus M6 starts from a different premise: that the quality of power delivered to each component is as consequential as the quality of the signal passing between them.

Six Outputs, One Argument

The M6 provides six individually filtered mains outlets, each designed to prevent the noise generated by one component from contaminating the supply reaching another. In a system where a streamer, DAC, amplifier, and turntable all share the same block, that isolation matters. A digital source is a particularly effective noise generator — and without proper filtering, that noise travels back through the mains and into everything else.

Chord's approach with the PowerHaus range is to treat mains filtering as seriously as signal cable geometry. The same attention to conductor quality, shielding, and connection integrity that runs through cables like the Chord Epic Power Cable is applied to the distribution block itself. The M6 sits at the top of a three-tier range — above the Chord PowerHaus S6 and Chord PowerHaus P6 — and the difference between levels is audible.

Where It Fits in a System

The PowerHaus M6 is aimed at systems where the cable investment is already serious. If you're running Chord ChordMusic Analogue RCA interconnects or Chord ChordMusic Speaker Cable, it makes no sense to leave the mains supply as the weakest link in the chain. The M6 is the logical conclusion of a cabling strategy built around noise rejection.

It is not a product for someone testing the water with their first upgrade cable. But for a system that is otherwise well sorted, the improvement in low-level detail, background clarity, and dynamic headroom is consistent enough that we demonstrate it regularly at the showroom.

A Note on What You're Actually Buying

Mains products attract more scepticism than almost anything else in hi-fi, and some of that scepticism is deserved — the category has its share of overpriced copper and marketing. The PowerHaus M6 is not that. Chord's engineering rationale is clearly stated, the construction is verifiable, and the results in a properly set-up system are not subtle. That's the basis on which we stock it.

Come and hear what a properly sorted mains supply does to a system you thought you already knew. Dave and Chris are both available to talk through the PowerHaus range and advise on where it fits in your setup — get in touch and we'll arrange a demonstration.
