Naim Audio Mu-so 2nd Generation Wireless Music System
The Naim Mu-so 2nd Generation is a single-cabinet wireless music system — a large, purposefully designed loudspeaker with six Focal-optimised drive units, 450 watts of internal amplification, and a streaming platform that covers AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Roon Ready, TIDAL, Qobuz, Spotify Connect, and Bluetooth. At 628mm wide and 11.2kg, it is not a compact product. It is a complete, room-filling system that requires no other components — no amplifier, no DAC, no separates. Connect to power, connect to your network, and it works.
The Mu-so was first introduced in 2014. The second generation, released in 2019, brought substantial changes: a new custom-designed driver array in collaboration with Focal, a revised DSP platform, a redesigned chassis with solid wood end caps, and support for higher-resolution audio formats. The digital and streaming platform has been updated since to reflect the current Naim feature set.
Drive Units and Amplification
Six drive units are fitted in a stereo three-way DSP-optimised vented configuration. Each driver is Focal-optimised — designed specifically for this cabinet and application. All six have dedicated amplifier channels: six amplifiers at 75W each, totalling 450W of internal power. The DSP manages crossover, equalisation, and timing between the drivers to produce a coherent stereo image from a single, non-separated cabinet.
Streaming Platform
AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, Chromecast, Roon Ready, Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Qobuz, QQ Music, and UPnP are all supported. Audio format support extends to WAV at 32bit/384kHz, FLAC and AIFF at 24bit/384kHz, ALAC at 24bit/384kHz, DSD 64 and 128Fs, and compressed formats at up to 48kHz. Network connection is via Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac or wired Ethernet. Bluetooth v4.2 is available for direct connection from a phone or tablet without network involvement. Control is via the Focal and Naim app.
Inputs and Connections
A 3.5mm analogue jack accepts any line-level or headphone-level source. An optical S/PDIF input accepts digital signals up to 96kHz. HDMI ARC with CEC allows the Mu-so to receive audio from a compatible television — making it a capable replacement for a soundbar in a room where sound quality matters. USB 2.0 Type-A supports audio playback from attached drives. Ethernet is available for wired network connection.

Who Is It For?
The Mu-so 2nd Generation is for the listener who wants a single, serious music system without the complexity of separate components. It is well suited to open-plan living rooms, kitchen-dining rooms, and any space where a full separates system would be impractical or visually unwelcome. The HDMI ARC connection makes it a legitimate hi-fi alternative to a television soundbar.
It is not a subtle product — 628mm wide and 450W of power suggest a serious acoustic presence — but it is designed to be placed on a shelf, a sideboard, or a piece of furniture. It is the most straightforward way to bring Naim's sound quality into a room without any of the paraphernalia of a traditional system.
Buying from Martins Hi-Fi
The Mu-so is one of Naim's most accessible products and one we demonstrate regularly in our Norwich showroom. It is a product that is best heard in person — the scale of the sound relative to its single-cabinet format is something that photographs cannot convey. Martins Hi-Fi has been selling hi-fi since 1968 and stocks the full Naim range.
