Trading In, Trading Up: Why Now Is a Good Time to Look at the Naim New Classic Platform
There is a version of this conversation that happens in the showroom fairly regularly. Someone comes in to listen to something new, mentions in passing that they have an older Naim streamer at home — an NDX, perhaps, or a SuperUniti — and by the end of the afternoon they are genuinely surprised by how much the platform has moved on.
That gap between what people assume and what they actually hear is worth talking about.
The Naim New Classic range represents a meaningful architectural shift rather than a cosmetic refresh. The NSC 222 streaming preamplifier and NSS 333 streaming DAC are built around a current-generation streaming platform — one designed around formats and infrastructure that will remain relevant, rather than retrofitted around legacy hardware. The NPX 300 external power supply removes the power circuitry from the signal chain entirely, which matters in ways that become immediately apparent when you compare the two configurations side by side.
If you own older Naim equipment, the question of whether to upgrade is rarely just about the hardware. It is about the whole system — what you are running it into, what you are feeding it, and whether the ceiling you keep bumping against is in the Naim box or somewhere else. These are conversations worth having in person rather than trying to resolve from a spec sheet.
Trading in an older piece of Naim kit can make the step to the new platform more achievable than people expect. Values vary by product and condition, and the only honest answer to "what is my old NDX worth?" is to ask someone who knows the current market. Dave, Chris and Tim can give you a straight answer on that — and they will tell you equally plainly if the upgrade does not make sense for your system right now.
We stock the current Naim New Classic range and can demonstrate it properly at our Norwich showroom. If you are curious about what the platform sounds like, or simply want to know what your current Naim equipment might be worth as a trade-in, get in touch.
