Product Details

The recent development of the stunning D7 has allowed significant advances in the design specification of the new A5R. From refinements to Spendor’s asymmetric bracing and dynamic damping systems, right through to the new materials and techniques used by Spendor engineers to create their unique drive units. The significantly improved sensitivity of the drive units has enabled us to make the A5R a sealed enclosure system. By isolating the front radiating surfaces completely from the rear surfaces, we have removed the bass smearing often associated with smaller floorstanding loudspeakers  which use reflex port systems to enhance the bass response. These effects can dull and flatten your music, reducing dynamics and masking detail. Not so in the A5R. The 15cm Low Bass Driver… utilises an ultra light composite Kevlar piston to give the A5R pin sharp timing. The low moving mass means the piston can react instantly to the music signal… you will swear the bass player and drummer in your favourite band just got better! The 15cm Bass/Midrange Driver… features the advanced polymer developed to give the seamless midrange of the D7. Now used in the A5R, it brings a new level of clarity and detail. After hand building all the drive units, Spendor test them on the MLS based computerised test system to ensure all drive units are pair-matched before being built into the enclosure. The High Frequency Driver… is fluid cooled, wide surround unit that gives all the dispersion benefits associated with larger diaphragms, with the frequency extension produced by smaller diaphragms. It integrates perfectly with the new bass/midrange unit thanks to Spendor’s latest high specification dedicated crossover filter unit. The Crossover Unit… uses audio grade capacitors and inductors hand wound at Spendor to make sure that the electronics are perfectly matched. Pure gold conductors with black damping and insulating layers bonded to the highest grade glass fibre substrate give the best performance possible. The Cabinet Enclosure… is built in Spendor's woodworking plant to the fine tolerances required for a precision engineered loudspeaker. They select individual veneers and apply a fine lacquer finish to enhance the character of the real wood to make sure your Spendor loudspeakers look as good as they sound. A single pair of precision engineered terminals is fitted to the rear and a smart new front grille with precisely machined apertures calculated to maintain the correct frequency balance of the loudspeaker. The Floor Spikes… are fitted directly into Spendor Ground Locks; the superb heavy duty machined mounting plates that lock the structure of the speaker securely to the floor. These cannot come loose or wobble like simple inserts screwed into the cabinet base. They also provide a stable foot should you wish to fit any other type of insulator or support. "
